Why do you need a Brokerage Calculator?

When you buy or sell stocks in India, the price you see on your screen isn't the only thing you pay. There are several "hidden" costs like Brokerage, STT (Securities Transaction Tax), Exchange Charges, and GST.

Sometimes, a trade that looks profitable on paper can actually be a loss after you subtract all these charges. This calculator helps you see your Net Profit—the actual money that goes into your bank account.

How to calculate brokerage (with examples)

Let's look at an Intraday Equity trade using the standard ₹20 or 0.03% model:

Small Trade vs Large Trade

Scenario A: Small Trade
  • Buy: 100 shares at ₹200 (Turnover: ₹20,000)
  • 0.03% of ₹20,000 = ₹6
  • Since ₹6 is less than ₹20, Brokerage = ₹6
Scenario B: Large Trade
  • Buy: 1000 shares at ₹500 (Turnover: ₹5L)
  • 0.03% of ₹5,00,000 = ₹150
  • Since ₹150 is more than ₹20, Brokerage maxes out at = ₹20

Remember, this calculation happens twice per full trade (once for buying, once for selling).

Key Terms Made Simple

STT (Securities Transaction Tax)

A tax charged by the government on every trade. This is usually the largest cost after brokerage, especially for delivery trades.

Exchange Charges

A small fee charged by the stock exchanges (NSE or BSE) for using their platform to trade.

GST

An 18% tax charged on the total of your Brokerage and Exchange charges.
